Hi, I'm Susie Kidd the studio Owner and Movement Educator. I have had an intense passion for movement and teaching others about the joy of being present in our own bodies and understanding how they move and perform not only in the studio but in everyday life.
I have been a certified Pilates instructor since 2003, and teaching dance on the north coast since 1997. In 2004 I was asked to join the College of the Redwoods as Associate Faculty in Dance and Physical Education where I wrote curriculum for Pilates, Hip Hop Dance, and Hiking.
In 2005 I realized my dream of a boutique movement studio and Sacred Bodies Pilates & Dance was created to provide a more personalized environment that focuses on movement education. In every class and session I bring my years of Pilates training, holistic knowledge and fun encouraging training style.
At Sacred Bodies Pilates & Dance our Equipment Sessions offer you undivided attention, support, and professional training in a completely private setting. This environment allows you to push yourself to your fullest potential and feel comfortable trying new exercises without distraction of other sessions or classes.
It is truly My goal that all my students and clients understand the concepts of Pilates and the bigger Holistic picture of how it relates to everyday life rather than just time in the studio.
My clients range from people like YOU to your next door neighbor, to dancers, athletes, those recovering from accidents, head traumas, stokes, memory loss, pregnancy, breast cancer, colon cancer, major surgeries and even those living with terminal illnesses.
I accept each client as an individual and will do all she can to accommodate your needs and goals. In addition to Pilates, I offer dance classes in various styles in the community.
I have also used the work I offer to heal my own illnesses and injuries ranging from broken back to injured knees and shoulders and the ability to continue dancing throughout my years. I swear I get younger more fit and more in tune every day!
Prior to opening my studio I performed many different jobs and have enjoyed many physical hobbies and experiences. Because of all of the different types of work and activities I can understand how your daily activities affect your body. My background includes working as a food server, a receptionist, a rafting, climbing and backpacking guide, a wilderness adventure guide for those with disabilities, a youth educator in elementary, middle and high school including nontraditional schools. I have also worked for 4H as a program representative, for KEET TV as a literacy outreach coordinator, for AmeriCorps as youth program and gardening director and for the National and State Parks as a Naturalist, Interpreter and sign designer. The list could go on but I am sure you get the idea that I have spent a lot of time in different work environments and can understand the issues that arise from doing so.
When I am not in my studio I can be found teaching dance classes in the community or at College of the Redwood, working on various creative art projects, hiking, gardening and being a Royal Rutabaga Queen with the Kinetic Grand Championship.
In addition to being a Pilates instructor I earned my Bachelors of Science from Humboldt State University in Natural Resources Interpretation in 2001. I have also been certified in Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), City EMT, Swift Water Rescue Technician and more. On the days I am not challenging someone’s body I get out and reconnect with nature.
I hope to share my wealth of knowledge with you soon and help you Rediscover Your Body!
